Important Free FileMaker 7 v3 Upgrades

FileMaker 7Today FileMaker Inc. announced and made available for download the 7.03 updaters for FileMaker 7 and FileMaker Developer 7. These are must have upgrades according to my sources and are recommended for all FileMaker 7 users. I’m still doing the download myself, so can’t give you first hand information yet. The Mac OS X download is 26 mb.

Here’s what the download page says about the upgrades:

FM7 v3: Includes changes to text editing, layout editing, scripting, calculations, import/export and more.

FM Dev 7 v3: Includes changes to script debugger, DDR, and Developer Utilities and more.

Go get the downloads now. There’s a combo download for Mac and 2 downloads for PC.

The included 8 page ReadMe pdf has a thorough breakdown of what’s been fixed, changed and added in these updates.

Desert Ridge AZ Gorgeous for FileMaker Devcon

Desert Ridge AZ FileMaker Dev Con

I was amazed and very happy upon arriving at the JW Marriott Desert Ridge in Arizona yesterday. Here’s a photo from my balcony! This is just one view of many drop dead gorgeous views. The rooms are wonderful too with lots of wood, giant-sized bathrooms, great design and comfort.

Desert Ridge Pool Shower

It’s hot out mid-day around 105 degrees. So, I’m finding amusement indoors until later in the day when I will play in and around the pool for a while. Then there’s a jam from 9:30 pm to midnight every night with Devcon attendees playing. They’ve been quite capable of driving a lot of dancing at past *shows*.

Getting off to a great start.

Just a reminder for all you harried FileMaker developers out there. In case you were waiting until the last minute, the last minute is here. FileMaker Developer Conference 2004 in Phoenix at the Mariott Desert Ridge Resort & Spa has a $200 discount until June 30th. After that, you have to pony up the full price of $1199.

For your hard earned money, besides the conference sessions themselves – which have always been excellent, you get a full version of FileMaker Pro 7, meals, conference shirt, conference bag, binder and CD.

Here are some of the conference sessions that sound particularly appealing:

Chris Moyer: Implementing Custom Privilege Management in FM7

John Mark Osborne: Philosophy of Scripting and Philosophy of Calculations

Jerry Robin: Designing a Relational Database -Building the Database

Geoff Ryle: FileMaker Business Tracker – Explained and Intelligent User Interface Design

Corn Walker: Advanced Custom Functions with FM Dev7 and Interaction Design in FM7

Todd Geist & Danny Mack: Migrating to FM 7 – the Strategic Perspective

Bob Bowers: Migrating Existing Solutions to FM7

Andrew LeCates: FileMaker 7 Design Fundamentals

These sessions look really meaty. Here’s a pdf of the Conference Brochure. I’ll be there. Please, if you see me, feel free to introduce yourself.
